چکیده

We present S-A-N-Sand elastic plateau modulus data obtained from semi-dilute wormlike micellar solutions, with small amounts of salt added. The spectra of these solutions are reminiscent of polyelectrolyte send-dilute solutions. The plateau modulus, which is related to the correlation length of the fluctuations in strain, is increased by the addition ofsalt. The primary result is that the electrostatic interactions induce short-range correlations in the structure of the semiflexible rod network, and tlds leads to a long-range correlation in the strain fluctuations. It has long been known that wormlike micelles can be formed in various surfactant solu-

The wormlike micellar solution made of a zwitterionic surfactant (TDPS), an anionic surfactant (SDS), and brine in the semidilute regime.

Structural and dynamical properties of a micellar solution are studied mainly through examining its rheological behavior in the semidilute regime. The micellar solution is made of a zwitterionic surfactant N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and salty water. In particular, we are interested in how the system is affected when the ionic strength of the ...

High-frequency microrheology of wormlike micelles.

We have measured the frequency-dependent shear modulus of entangled solutions of wormlike micelles by high-frequency microrheology and have compared the results with those from macrorheology experiments done on the same samples. Using optical microrheology based on laser interferometry we have measured loss and storage moduli over six decades in frequency up to about 100 kHz. We present data ov...

Contrasting effects of temperature on the rheology of normal and reverse wormlike micelles.

Wormlike micelles are flexible polymerlike chains formed by the self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules either in water ("normal" worms) or in oil ("reverse" worms). Normal and reverse worms have both been studied extensively and have generally been found to exhibit analogous rheological properties (e.g., Maxwell fluidlike behavior). Here, we report a hitherto unexplored difference between these...

Dynamics and rheology of wormlike micelles emerging from particulate computer simulations.

We perform coarse-grained computer simulations of solutions of semidilute wormlike micelles and study their dynamic and rheological properties, both in equilibrium and under shear flow. The simulation model is tailored to the study of relatively large time and length scales (micrometers and several milliseconds), while it still retains the specific mechanical properties of the individual wormli...

Effect of silica colloids on the rheology of viscoelastic gels formed by the surfactant cetyl trimethylammonium tosylate.

The effects of the addition of submicrometer-sized colloidal silica spheres on the linear and nonlinear rheology of semidilute solutions of a viscoelastic gel are studied. For a 1.4 wt% solution of the surfactant CTAT, a peak in the zero-shear rate viscosity eta(0) is observed at approximately equal weight percents of silica and CTAT. This peak shifts to lower silica concentrations on increasin...
